Verizon Releases FiOS iPad App
Verizon FiOS customers, rejoice, as the telecommunications giant just released a free FiOS app for the iPad. The new app allows FiOS customers to manage their DVRs and browse FiOS video-on-demand (VOD) offers remotely, and turns their iPad into a remote control for their home set-top boxes.
Verizon actually started offering customers the ability to use their mobile device as a remote control earlier this year, but the iPad was left out, as the apps were only compatible with iPhone and Android so far.
The app allows customers to change channels, pause, rewind and fast forward or even record a TV show. Video-on-demand titles can be browsed and launched directly from the iPad as well.
According to Eric Bruno, VP of product management for Verizon, “Verizon is pushing the boundaries of TV with innovative technology that continues to spur the industry’s evolution [...] We’re giving customers more control over their TV entertainment whenever and wherever they want it. Extending our FiOS Mobile app to customers using iPads gives more subscribers more ways to conveniently manage their FiOS TV services.”
Note that Verizon plans to add new features to the application over the next few months, including photo flicking, in order to stream stored photos from the iPad to the TV.
The app is free, and can be downloaded here.
