iPad Hits 50,000 Apps Milestone in Only Eight Months

Apple’s iPad ecosystem hit another milestone today as the number of dedicated iPad apps available in the App Store passed the 50,000 mark. Previously, Apple hit the 40,000 app mark on November 9 and achieved this milestone by adding 10,000 new apps in only 42 days. It took Apple only 36 days to grow the iPad App Store from 40,000 to 50,000 apps, which represents a 15% month-over-month rate increase.
The iPad ecosystem has grown at an impressive rate since it was launched April 3. The iPad achieved the 50,000 apps mark faster than any other product in the Apple’s history. In comparison, it took almost 11 months for the iPhone & iPod Touch to hit the 50,000 app mark versus only 8 months to hit the same level for the iPad.
Apple originally broke the 10,000 iPad apps mark in June, 70 days after the launch of the iPad on April 3.
- 10,000 iPad Apps – 70 days
- 20,000 iPad Apps – 60 days
- 30,000 iPad Apps – 48 days
- 40,000 iPad Apps – 42 days
- 50,000 iPad Apps – 36 days
With over 50,000 iPad apps now available, the iPad is one of the fastest growing mobile application ecosystems. The iPad app store is currently the third largest mobile apps platform behind iPhone and Android. If you combine all iOS apps, there are roughly three times as many iOS apps as there are Android apps.
