Like Google, Twitter has been busy analyzing their mountain of data to see which topics were the top trending items for 2010. Their Top 10 Biggest Trends list has all the topics you’d expect to see from 2010 such as the Gulf Oil Spill, the World Cup, teen sensation Justin Bieber and of course the Apple iPad.
The iPad topped Twitter’s Technology list as the number one tweeted technology topic in 2010. Apple’s magical tablet was also the 6th most tweeted topic overall for 2010 and was the most tweeted product to make it into Twitter’s list. Apple’s iPad beat out Google’s Android OS in the Top 10 list and the two items were the only products featured.
In Twitter’s Technology category, Apple dominated the field with its products taking four of the top ten spots. The iPad (#1), iOS (#3), iPhone (#4) and MacBook Air (#9) all made the list while many other popular technology products didn’t make the cut this year. Google was able to secure the second spot with Android OS and the #10 spot with Google Instant. HTC made it on the list but other mobile device makers Nokia, Palm, RIM and Motorola we’re absent from this year’s list.
Apple has been on a roll this year. It’s devices captured top spots in Google’s Most Searched list for 2010 and now Apple also holds the Top spot with Twitter. It will be interesting to see if Apple is able to maintain the momentum through 2011 as increased competition from Google, RIM and Palm materializes with their rollout of new products to compete in the tablet space.
