ISOTONER smarTouch Gloves – Gear Review

Continuing on with the iPad winter accessory theme from this week, the people at ISOTONER were kind enough to send a pair of their smarTouch gloves for me to evaluate.

It’s cold outside, you’re trying to use your iPad or iPhone and you’re wearing gloves which are preventing you from doing just that.  Have you ever been in that situation?  I know I have, and I find it so annoying to remove my gloves just so I can make a phone call or check out the latest app.  Not anymore!

I liked the look of the smarTouch gloves as soon as I took them out of the box on Friday.  The fun color combination (teal and black), snug fit, lightweight and soft material are all qualities I look for in my winter gloves, but would they allow me to use my iPad and iPhone while wearing them?  I couldn’t wait to try them out.

I slipped the smarTouch gloves on my hands and immediately noticed two important features.  First, the index fingers and thumbs are embroidered with a silver colored thread.  This conductive thread used on the fingertips is designed to transfer electrical impulses to the touch screen, allowing users to swipe, tap and pinch any Apple touch screen device.  The second feature, a non-slip diamond shaped pattern on the palms, prevents slipping and lets you hold your device securely in the palm of your hand.

I then picked up my iPad, pushed the Home button, touched the screen and my smarTouch gloves worked like a charm.  I tapped a book app and starting swiping through the pages without a problem.  I then checked out Google Maps to test my pinching capability and sent an email to try typing.  Everything I tried worked without a hitch and now I wonder how I made it through last winter without this winter accessory.

Not only can you use smarTouch gloves with your iPads, iPhones and iPods but ATMs, gas pumps, GPS systems and any other touch screen device.  They’re available in a wide range of colors, styles and sizes for both men and women so you’re sure to find something you like.  You can purchase the gloves on websites from Amazon to Macy’s and Walmart to JCPenny or check the smarTouch gloves website to find a retailer near you.

What I liked: I can finally use my iPad, iPhone and iPod without removing my gloves!  The soft fleece material, non-slip palms and great colors make them a must-have winter accessory.

What I didn’t like: They’re perfect for Texas winters but the lightweight might not be warm enough for really cold climates.  The gloves obviously make your fingers bulkier than normal so typing on an iPhone screen is a little challenging.

To buy or not to buy: Yes!  If you have an iPad, iPhone, iPod or other touch screen device, the smarTouch gloves are a great winter accessory.  They’ll also make great Christmas gifts for your iDevice toting friends and family!
