Atomic Ball HD for iPad – App Review
If you’ve been around a while, chances are you’ve played a game of Breakout on an old Atari or some other more modern gaming system. Most Breakout styled games tend to be easy to learn but not always the most challenging games out there. Atomic Ball HD, from iOS developer Meritum Soft, looks to remedy this with a modern and quick paced take on the old classic.
The premise of the game is simple, move your paddle around the screen to try and keep your ball in play while trying to eliminate bricks above your paddle. Once you’ve successfully eliminated all the bricks, you get to move on to the next level where new challenges await. Sounds easy, but this game has a few unique twists to keep you busy.
Atomic Ball HD adds several nice new features which gives the game a modern look and keeps the game interesting as you progress through the levels. The graphics have been redone specifically for the iPad and add a nice visual flair to the game. The game also includes bonus items that fall from the bricks when you hit them. If you catch the items, you might be rewarded with an extra life, fireball, multi-ball play or even the challenging Drunken Multi-ball which wanders around the screen in a bit of a stupor.
Players can choose to play the game in Single Player, Skirmish or Death Match mode. In Skirmish mode, players are kept busy with two paddles, one on the bottom and one on the top of the screen. Death Match mode pits players against each other on the same iPad using a split screen. The Atomic Ball HD features 50 Single Player and Skirmish levels along with 30 Death Match levels to keep you challenged.
If you like Breakout but want something more modern and challenging for you iPad, take a look at Atomic Ball HD. With its HD graphics, great physics engine and challenging game features like 32 ball multi-ball play, Atomic Ball HD is sure to keep you entertained for hours.
Atomic Ball HD is available for $1.99 in the App Store.
What I liked: Fun, fast paced paddle game with a great physics engine and plenty of levels to keep players busy.
What I didn’t like: Doesn’t auto rotate when in Landscape Mode.
