Reckless Racing HD for iPad – App Review
Reckless Racing HD is one of those intensive racing games that blends the finest top-down racer style with incredible high definition graphics. The game includes arcade-like effects that make you slip and slide through down-and-dirty racetracks with precision iPad controls. It’s a fun game that will test you and your friends with funny characters and very detailed realistic environments.
It took a little while before the game got released into the App Store. But, when EA Mobile picked up the game and published it for Pixelbite, we certainly expected an intensive and extremely fun racing game.
Reckless Racing HD looks phenomenal on the iPad. With eight tracks to choose from and the ability to select custom paint colors for your vehicles, this game forces you to forget about real life driving and drive like a maniac to cross the finish line.
The game setting takes you to the heart of Dixie, where you’ll encounter very challenging back-road racetracks. You can learn the basics and choose from a variety of driving controls. As you make progress through the races you can move up through Bronze, Silver & Gold difficulty levels.
To play this game you can select from three different game modes. The Dirt Rally mode forces you to finish a number of laps before any of your computer-based opponents. The Hot Lap mode challenges you to a time trial. All you have to do is complete a single lap and try to beat your previous best time. Finally, in the Deliver mode you collect packages and transport them to spots on a map before time runs out.
The game supports online multiplayer. You can post your best times on online leaderboards and trade ghost races with players from all over the world. Chat functionality is also built in.
What we liked: The graphical design is phenomenal. The game is a lot of fun to play. It allows you to hit objects like cones and street signs, you can take shortcuts by cutting through many places.
All of the single player modes (Dirt Rally, Hot Lap, Deliver) include online leaderboards. You can also play online via a nice multiplayer mode that lets you race in Dirt Rally or Hot Lap modes with up to 3 other players over WiFi or 3G. I can honestly say the online feature works very well.
We were very impressed with the stunning graphics and the physics system. The developers simply put a lot of work into this game because the attention to detail is excellent. You can even see dust and dirt flying behind your vehicle’s tires and tons of objects that make the game look very realistic (street signs, fences, houses).
What we didn’t like: There is a lot to like about this game. However, we would like to see additional race tracks. After playing the game for a while, you really want to see more race tracks and more and more challenges coming your way. We certainly hope the developers will add more tracks soon.
To buy or not to buy: Reckless Racing HD is a blast. The game will challenge you as you drift around every turn on tracks. All the tracks have been well designed. Graphics and all the high-quality environments are great. This is one of the best top-down racing games for your iPad. If you’re into top-down racing games, Reckless Racing HD is a must download for your iPad.
