Verizon’s FiOS App Starts with iPhone, iPad Support Coming Soon
If you’re a Verizon customer, we wanted to let you know that Verizon has released an iOS version of their FiOS Remote app onto the App Store.
The app is free and leverages an earlier DVR-only app. The new FiOS remote app will let you change FiOS TV channels, order on demand titles, adjust volume, manage parental controls, and use DVR functionality such as pause, rewind, fast forward, or record live programming.
The current app will work with an iPhone or iPod on the same WiFi network as the FiOS service itself. It’s compatible with your iPad, but an iPad native app is not available yet. However, Verizon plans to have one available soon.
With the current FiOS app you can use your iOS device to control the FiOS TV onscreen full QWERTY keyboard to search for TV programming and video-on-demand titles. You also get access to FiOS TV widgets from Facebook and Twitter. In addition, photos stored on your iOS device can be displayed on the TV screen.
Verizon has been developing a live streaming iPad app. The FiOS iPad app, which is currently called “What’s Hot”, will allow existing subscribers to watch on their iPad the same programming that’s available on their TV screens. According to Verizon, the new app is targeted for release in early 2011. Keep in mind that every time you provide video content you need to make sure your content partners are in full agreement. Verizon expects to have all content partners on board by early next year.
Verizon’s FiOS Remote app is available now for iPhone and iPod Touch for FREE. Stay tuned for the iPad native app, which is targeted for early 2011. In the meantime, you can try the current app to play around with some of the existing features.
