MusicSkins for Your iPad – Gear Review
If you’re a big music fan, you’ve probably heard about MusicSkins. But, if you haven’t, MusicSkins is well known for making vinyl skin merchandise for a multitude of electronic devices. They make music-related premium vinyl skin products for the iPad, iPods, MP3 players, cell phones, PDAs, laptops, and gaming accessories.
We recently tried some of the vinyl skin products from MusicSkins on our iPads. One of the first things that impressed me is the quality of the design on each skin. It brings a great vibe to the iPad. If you like to be fashionable with your mobile devices, MusicSkins certainly offers many options for music lovers.
Their line of fully removable entertainment-themed skins for the iPad covers many musical genres like rock, rap, country, R&B, pop and reggae, as well as fashion, art, models and other media themes. You can buy skins from some of the hottest artists in the industry, including Aerosmith, The Beatles, Jay Z, Black Eyed Peas, AC/DC, Madonna, Kiss, Lil Wayne, Bob Marley, Taylor Swift, Pink Floyd, Linkin Park and many more.
I had the chance to try MusicSkins from two of my favorite rock bands, Aerosmith and Linkin Park. The skins are made from anti-scratch, anti-UV coated vinyl with a residue-free 3M adhesive, and come packed with cleaning cloths. These skins will certainly protect your iPad from unwanted scratches.
I also liked that these skins are fully removable and leave no residue on your iPad after removal. I was able to install both skins on the same iPad and was able to remove each skin without major problems. However, you need to be careful with the way you remove them from your iPad. Yes, the skins come off easily, but not often without some stretching that could make a skin difficult to reuse if you’re not careful.
In terms of shipment and packaging, both skins arrived into our facility very well protected. The package came in a box and the two skins were very well wrapped and protected. In addition, you get a free clear screen protector as part of the package in case you want to shield the iPad screen.
The installation process was very simple. Simply remove all dust and oil from your iPad using the included MusicSkins soft cloth, or any soft cloth you may have around your house. Peel the skin from its backing paper, align it with the top edge of your iPad and position it over it. Then, simply press the skin firmly in place, and use your fingers or a cloth to smooth out any air bubbles.
What we liked: Easy to install. The skins are made of premium, 3M vinyl material that will protect the back of your iPad very well. The design catalog from MusicSkins is very large giving you many options to choose from. The skins can be peeled off easily without leaving any residue. Overall, the design on each skin is very elaborated, and will certainly give your iPad some personality.
What we didn’t like: The skins provide no protection for the edges of the iPad. They are designed to primarily protect the back of your iPad, but not the edges. For full protection, you may want to use an iPad sleeve or case. However, the skins are thin enough that will allow you to still use an iPad sleeve or case whenever you plan to take your device on the road.
To buy or not to buy: If you like to bring some personality to your iPad while protecting it from scratches, MusicSkins offers plenty of options and designs.
