Vidyo Submits Video Conferencing App for iPad and iPhone

email

Over the last few months many companies have opened their doors to the tablet market. We’ve seen how Apple’s iPad has made inroads into the enterprise market.

Companies like Wells Fargo, Daimler AG’s Mercedes Benz, SAP AG and several others have approved the iPad as a working tool within their premises.

We expected it would be a matter of time before some creative companies eventually would come out with additional solutions for the enterprise. That’s exactly what Vidyo is doing. Vidyo is betting big by bringing their video conferencing technology to mobile devices like your iPad and iPhone.

Vidyo is a company that specializes in high-quality video conferencing technology, and they have decided their technology is ready for the enterprise and mobile devices. Vidyo is not a “newbie” in this market segment. In case you didn’t know, they already license their technology to large corporations like Intel, HP, Hitachi to name a few.

One persistent problem in the market today is the device fragmentation. There are many consumers and employees using different devices to communicate with each other. According to Vidyo, they’re planning to address this same issue by developing a cross-platform solution that allows users to access and connect with Vidyo from any device such as the iPhone, iPad, Android or computers.

Vidyo has submitted an iPad and iPhone app to the App Store for approval. The app has been designed to allow Vidyo customers to access the video conferencing product from their iOS devices. Watch the video below for a preview. Keep in mind that if you try to use this app from an iPad you can’t turn on video on your own since the current version of the iPad platform does not have a camera. Of course, iPhone 4 users do have a front-facing camera and will be able to initiate a video conference call.

It seems that over the next few months we will continue to see the enterprise becoming more reliant on mobile devices for connectivity, and companies like Vidyo are getting ready to claim a piece of that market.
