UC Urvine’s School of Medicine Uses Revolutionary iPad

email

UC Irvine’s School of Medicine has jumped on the iPad bandwagon too, and the implementation of a new program will provide all first year medical students with Apple iPads and electronic textbooks from Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services.

Elsevier’s online portal, Student Consult, will allow faculty and students access to full textbooks and interactive content all from their iPads.  Dr. Ralph V. Clayman, Dean of the UCI School of Medicine, believes “a digitally based curriculum is the future of medical education” and it appears UCI also believes the iPad is the way to go.

Our commitment to provide these students with the best technology platform and content available is shared by Elsevier, which has responded quickly and positively to our request for high-quality e-textbooks accessible through the iPad.

Incoming medical students will receive the following electronic textbook titles:

  • Netter: Atlas of Human Anatomy
  • Gartner: Color Textbook of Histology
  • Costanzo Physiology
  • Nussbaum: Thompson & Thompson Genetics in Medicine

According to Randy Charles, Managing Director for Elsevier’s Global Clinical Reference Group, “We fully support UCI’s progressive move and are working hard to make more of our respected medical content available through mobile devices like the iPad and iPhone.”

With Elsevier’s plans to work closely with the school to monitor content and UCI’s plans to incorporate additional Elsevier textbooks as the school year progresses, this appears to be a technological partnership in which everyone benefits.
