Art Authority for iPad in Use at Seton Hill University

We reported Seton Hill University’s plans to provide iPads to all its students starting with the fall semester back in March.  Classes start today and students across campus are rushing to those classes presumably with iPads in hand.  But what will they use iPads for exactly?  Well, Art History students and faculty members, will be participating in a pilot program using Art Authority for iPad as an integral part of their classes.

Shortly after Seton Hill announced its plan to provide iPads to students, Open Door Networks Inc. and Project A Inc. (We-Envision.com) launched its Art Authority and the relationship between the university and We-Envision.com seemed obvious.  Art Authority provides users access to over 40,000 paintings and sculptures from over 1,000 western artists and will be “a key part of a pilot program aimed at understanding how the iPad and the app can aid, extend and transform the traditional learning environment.”

Each student and faculty member in the Art History program will receive a free copy of Art Authority and the app will be a key component for students attending AR 200 “Italian Renaissance Art” and AR 205 “Modern Art”.  Pati Beachley, Associate Professor of Art and Director of the Art Program at Seton Hill said,

The use of Art Authority on the new iPad will give our students enhanced learning advantages in the classroom as well as outside the classroom. Being able to instantly access visual information streamlines instructional technology in a fun, exploratory way.

Art Authority developers will be looking for and reacting to feedback from students and staff throughout the pilot program this semester.  The ability for developers to quickly make changes and release new updates makes the iPad platform a great tool for any classroom.  We’re looking forward to hearing about more iPad implementations in schools as the year progresses.
