Did You Get Your Hulu Plus Preview Invite?

Today, we’ve received a few tips from readers who have started receiving Hulu Plus preview invites. It seems there are many in queue awaiting for their official invites.

In case you were not aware of it, Hulu is asking for feedback for their Hulu Plus service as they get ready to launch the service across several platforms, including your iPad.

If you don’t know what Hulu Plus is, it’s a $9.99/month service that allows you to manage and view your favorite shows for an iPad, iPhone, computer, or connected TV. The service has been touted as one that will give you access to full seasons of your favorite TV shows versus just a few recent episodes that you normally find on Hulu’s free service. In addition, Hulu Plus will provide 720p HD quality video streamed over either WiFi or 3G.

If you’re one of the lucky ones that have already received the preview invite, please share your comments with us. Send us an email or feel free to share comments below. We’re interested on hearing about your experience. Will this be the future of web-based television? Will it replace the way you consume TV shows today?

I received my invite a few weeks ago. Since you have to pay to “preview”, I just deleted it. They would have been smart to have us test it for free. That would have stood a better chance of convincing me to subscribe to something other than Netflix.

Is it too late to move your invite out of the trash and forward it to me? My email is M8R-iapuxd AT mailinator.com

I requested an invite before I learned that the service would require a paid subscription AND have commercials. I would have been willing to pay $9.95 a month to see if I liked the service, but the commercials are a deal-breaker for me. I deleted my invitation when I received it.

Any way to undelete and send it my way?

  • Eric

I too requested an invite with the thought that being part of the “preview” I’d get to check it out for free. With that being not the case, this was a no-go for me too.

I received my invite about 3 weeks ago, and I’ve really enjoyed having it. However, at the rate they are adding shows, I will run out of content that I’m even remotely interested in. The free service works very well for shows that are currently on air, and it’s for the shows that have ended (or you are just late getting started on) that hulu has its potential. You may also not realize that options available on hulu plus can expire. For example, I’m no longer able to watch the first season of Bones (it was on my queue, and then it started disappearing). I was disappointed to see that. If hulu wishes to keep me as a customer, they need to add lots more shows, and they need to put serious effort into negotiating contracts that don’t have such inconvenient expiration dates. Without doing those things, hulu has a very unsustainable business model on their hands.

got my invite a few days ago. saw they wanted my credit card info as i was about the sign up for the “preview” for $10/month. sorry hulu, preview should be free, and for $10/mo should have no ads. hulu plus is going to be DOA. ill stick to netflix. invite went to the trash…

The implication when I requested the invite after downloading the iPad app was that the preview would be ad supported and free. When I got the actual invitation to sign up for the preview it turns out that the preview is ad supported AND costs $10 per month. I decided not to sign up for the “ad supported” preview.

  • Amanda

I’m with the others. Got the invite, trashed it. I’m not paying for a “preview.” Even Netflix gives you a free trial and their content is superior.

  • Stephen

I also received a preview invite, under the assumption it would be a free and limited access way to check out the service before signing up. The same deal breakers for me were similar to others, paying for content that is supported by ads and commercials. I’d definitely pay for commercial free content, but except the content to be free if supported by commercials just as it is on their website.

Based on the vast majority of feedback in forums I’ve seen, most seem to feel the same. I hope Hulu can resolve this since I feel the concept is sound, but the business model isn’t in line with what users expect.

For those asking for invites, just go to the Hulu website. I have yet to hear of anyone requesting but not receiving an invite. Anyone should receive one in a couple days after requesting.

Mine went straight into the trash after I found out I had to pay. I don’t like FREE-TV enough to pay for it!!!!
