iFitness for iPad – App Review

Everyone that knows me well, will tell you that I’m a fitness freak. Not a day goes by without me running, or lifting weights, or doing some kind of exercise routine.

But, up to this point, I haven’t used that many fitness apps. However, the App Store does offer many options for you in terms of fitness apps. Two days ago, I saw one of my gym trainers using his iPad to explain certain exercises to one of his clients. It was then when I found out about iFitness HD, and decided to give it a try.

If you’re trying to get in shape, iFitness HD offers you the opportunity to design and monitor a very good health and fitness program. The app is quite useful for many levels of fitness. Whether you’re starting out a fitness plan, or you’re a regular fitness addict, or a personal trainer the app becomes quite handy because it allows you to carry your custom-made workout around with you.

If you’re a personal trainer, I’ve witnessed a couple of trainers already using this app. It seems that clients are quickly impressed with the videos explaining the exercise routines, and all the images and instructions included in this app.

If you want to become you’re own trainer, the app guides you through various fitness programs, and explains all exercise movements. What I liked about this feature is that it explains to all “newbies” out there the exercise routines using pictorial representations, supported by step-by-step instructions to ensure every exercise will be performed correctly.

The app will cover every part of your body if you’re after a full-body workout. iFitness HD provides images of people performing over 330 exercises, sorted by body region, targeted muscles, or even equipment used. Simply choose a target, tap on an exercise, and you are presented with a picture of the exercise with full text instructions. For more difficult exercises, a single tap on the video icon brings up video instructions for you.

If you like custom workouts, you can use the ‘My Workouts’ feature to design your own custom workouts for different days of the week. In addition, the app allows you to add your own custom exercises with ease. If you want to track your progress, simply use the logging feature to start recording your progress. Your data is saved and presented to you anytime you want, and can be sent to your email as well.

The developer has included 20 routines that target various goals. The routines cover various goals from weight loss to strength building to ab definition to golf program, and many more including numerous sport conditioning routines. If you’re a road warrior or simply like a fitness companion when you travel, the app comes with some equipment-free routines for you.

Overall, the app comes with many exercise routines, images, instructions, videos. I noticed there are some exercise routines missing. For example, some free-weight routines like “dumbbell” press sets are missing. But, we expect the developers to keep adding routines and more information to this app.

What we liked: Well designed, very simple to use. The custom-made workouts feature is great to fit your schedule and workout goals. The step-by-step instructions and videos are great for anyone who needs to be more informed about all exercise routines. The app features ensure you’re performing each exercise correctly.

What we didn’t like: As previously mentioned, there are a few routines missing. However, there are many routines available to you that will help you accomplish great results. We would like to see a nutritional section added, which can be beneficial to everyone wanting to learn more about what foods are appropriate to enhance performance and increase energy.

Most of the exercise routines on iFitness HD will require you to own some gym equipment, or be part of a gym. However, this should not prevent you from trying this app because it offers some routines to record running times, heart rates, or numbers of sit-ups and press-ups amongst other things.

To buy or not to buy: Personal trainers can be costly for many. Attempting a new exercise without assistance can lead to strain or an ineffective workout. If you’re looking for a solution to both problems, iFitness HD is a very good exercise companion for you. The app is very well designed and easy to use. iFitness HD is available now for $3.99.

Yo! Nice app and nice review. I will give this a try for sure.

I have the iPhone version, which is a bit more practical at the gym instead of lugging around an iPad.

Either way, As I was creating my workout, I, too, noticed some lack of excersices like a “Flat close-grip press”, as opposed to the given “decline close-…”. The same day, I did also notice a feature which allows you to create your own excersices under “excersices” > “Add/Edit Custom Excersices”.

I haven’t tried it yet, but it looks promising for the few excersices i’d like to set.

As far as I know this application is out of sale now at Apple store so I guess All-in Fitness is a good substitution to it. The same great features and options so you won’t be disappointed.

Sandy, thanks a lot as I have been looking for ifitness and I have followed your advice and I have bought All-in Fitness and you know I am very happy with it in fact. It is produced by Viaden Mobile and I am going to buy some other apps by this company.
