If you like tactical warfare games based on clean strategy, Chillingo’s Modern Conflict HD is a very good game for that.
This game, which was created by the same developer that brought you Angry Birds, offers a contemporary take on tactical warfare that has you controlling tanks and helicopters to overcome the enemy forces. The game is simple, but very addictive.
The game allows you to experience all kinds of warfare tactics. Bases you control automatically generate units. You can select a number of units or all units in a base to conquer neutral or enemy bases. Tap to select your units and then tap to send them into battle.
You can capture bases by throwing more units at a target, but be ready to deal with the consequences. You need to make sure you have the right number of attackers to overcome their defenses.
The game includes an interactive tutorial that introduces you to intuitive and easy controls, while missions gradually increase in difficulty as your abilities and experience increase.
What makes this game so addictive is the campaign mode, which allows you to battle across the globe. You will engage in 33 missions in increasingly challenging campaigns across America, Russia and China. The speed and intensity never stops, but there’s always an opportunity to succeed no matter how tough the challenge looks.
You can play randomly-generated missions with increasingly numerous strategic opponents in Survival Mode. Upgrade any of your 12 strategy skills between battles to improve for even stronger upcoming opponents.
The game comes with powerful units and explosive abilities. You can command tanks and helicopters on the battlefield and use the level layout to your advantage. You will quickly learn that each setting demands a different approach, so you have to make sure that you use your forces wisely. Powerful bonus abilities include air strikes, reinforcements, communication interception, and many more.
Finally, the game allows you to compare your results and score with fellow players around the globe. See how you compare to Modern Conflict HD players anywhere with a library of achievements, leader-boards and even direct challenges.
What we liked: Very fun and addictive game with great graphics.
What we didn’t like: No multi-player mode. We would like to see this feature added in future updates. It would be real fun to play this game with other people in teams. In addition, some of the campaigns could be a bit longer.
To buy or not to buy: This game is a never-ending strategic challenge. All you have to do is to think first, and then tap to select units and send them into battle. Make sure you do so until you win! It’s a very good download for your iPad.
