Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge for iPad Just Released

If you happen to be a retro games fan, you need to put Monkey Island 2 on your list. LucasArts just ported the game to the iPad, and if you miss the point-and-click genre, you won’t be disappointed.
In case you never heard about the Monkey Island franchise, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge is an adventure game that was released 19 years ago, in 1991. It was the second game of the Monkey Island series, following The Secret of Monkey Island, and the game’s story centers on the wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood. After defeating ghost pirate LeChuck in the first Monkey Island, little is known of what happened between Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley, his love interest. The sequel involves Guybrush’s attempts to both find the mysterious treasure, Big Whoop, and win back Elaine’s love.
The game features enhanced visuals compared to 1991, and the result is impressive, especially when you run the PC version next to the iPad. Monkey Island 2 also features a full voice cast (the original version was released on floppies, and did not feature voices or speech synthesis back in the day!). Some of us at PadGadget played the original version back in 1991, and we loved the “non-linear” aspect of the game, as well as the long shelf life; the iPad version is just as addictive, and the enhancements make the game a must-have.
