Frog Dissection for iPad – First Look

email

Frog Dissection by Emantras is an interesting and easy-to-use science app. Although it probably won’t replace the traditional dissection students usually perform during a biology class, it’s a great addition to the tools available for teachers to help their students learn.

Dissection begins with a frog on a tray and tools displayed across the top of the screen. A small spiral notebook in the top right corner provides step-by-step instructions as students are prompted by highlighted tools and led through the dissection process. From pins to hold the frog in place, to cutting with the scalpel, students are able to quickly complete the dissection.

Things get interesting when the belly of the frog is split open and the organs are exposed and ready to view. Small blue dots indicate the organs you may select to get more information. Tap an organ and a 3D view appears along with a detailed description.  View all sides of an organ by swiping your finger back and forth across the screen.

My kids enjoyed completing their first dissection and it didn’t take them long to get inside the belly of the frog and check out some guts. Frog Dissection is an easy way for kids to experience science without any hassle, and you know all the frogs will be happy they didn’t croak in the process!
