Pandora Releases iPad Advertising Platform
Pandora, the web based music streaming service, took the wraps off of their new iPad advertising platform today. Pandora is launching the service initially with three brands (Starbucks, Lexus and Budweiser) and says each brands’ advertising campaign will take full advantage of the rich audio, video and interactive capabilities of the iPad.
Pandora’s advertising platform is able to target customer’s based on a number of demographic details including age, location, gender, music preferences and time of day. The service is multi-screen capable so advertisers can target customers on their phones, PC’s and now their iPads.
Apple is launching their own advertising service called iAd as part of the new iOS 4.0. The iAd service will allow developers to integrate interactive rich media advertising directly into their apps and give brands new ways of connecting with customers.
It would appear that Pandora didn’t want to wait on iAd for iOS based devices and will instead use their own solution for customers using Apple’s iOS based devices. Mobile advertising is a hotly contested space as companies jostle for market position in what is expected to be a $2 billion business by 2012.
