Spectra and Jensen Launching iPad Speaker Combo
Looking for a set of speakers for your iPad? How about a speaker and app combo instead?
This is what Spectra Merchandising, a company that develops and markets contemporary consumer electronics, is planning to do with an iPad-docking speaker system.
Spectra’s Jensen-brand (JiPS-250i) iPad speaker system swivels and tilts a docked iPad and features composite-video output. The speaker system is targeted to ship in fourth-quarter this year at a suggested price of $99.99.
If you decide to go for the JiPS-250i system, your investment can be reused with your other gadgets. The speaker system will accept iPods and iPhones given those devices use the same 30-pin connector, which will deliver iPad/iPod/iPhone-stored video to a connected TV via the speaker’s composite-video output.
In addition, the JiPS-250i will use an upcoming free app to deliver additional speaker-system features. Spectra’s app will add Internet radio, weather information, alarm clock with a variety of wake/sleep settings, voice-message calendar, custom equalizer settings and subscription-based Play Anywhere service, which lets you access your personal music collection via the Internet.
The system design is quite handy. It showcases the form of a speaker tube with side speakers and adjustable holder that rotates the iPad into portrait and landscape mode. Another nice detail is that it angles the iPad up to 55 degrees to enable easy use of your iPad’s virtual keyboard.
A few additional features coming with this speaker-combo system are: 2×2.5-watt output; a remote and aux-in jack to connect an iPod Shuffle, other-brand MP3 players, laptops, portable game devices and more.
With the big success of the iPad, we will continue to see accessory manufacturers and creative companies like Spectra coming out with flashy products that will continue to add fuel to the iPad market.
