Reeder for iPad – First Look

Reeder for iPad hit the App Store yesterday. And, it is already following the steps of its predecessor, Reeder for iPhone. If you’re not familiar with Reeder, it’s an RSS reader that syncs with your Google Reader account.

We’ve seen several RSS reader apps hitting the iPad App Store. It has been an interesting category to watch since the iPad launched. We’ve seen some good apps such as The Early Edition, which resembles a newspaper and showcases a very attractive look. We’ve also seen Pulse News Reader, which has also enjoyed some success and still is the Top-2 paid iPad app. But, it’s Reeder for iPad the one that has now moved to the top of the mountain on the App Store.

We have played a little bit with Reeder. We like its simple design and the fact that is extremely easy to use. The app avoids the newspaper look, but the main screen still shows you labeled piles of unread pages for each subscription in your Google Reader account.

The app takes advantage of the iPad pinch feature to let you open your files and see individual feeds. You can quickly find all your feeds via three possible views at the top level: starred, unread, and no filter.

When you launch the app the first thing you get to see is the “dashboard” screen, which contains all your Google Reader folders as stacks and a control bar on the left. You can use the app both in landscape and portrait mode. You can use the bar on the left to switch between unread, starred and unfiltered items (including Notes and Shared items). You have a sync button that shows you very clearly when the app is syncing with Google Reader.

You can send your articles to others in different ways. You can send an article to Delicious, Pinboard, Instapaper, Read It Later, or Twitter. You can open an article in Safari, and copy or mail a link to the article. You can also email the article itself, applying either the Google or Instapaper Mobilizer, and attaching a note in Google Reader.

From what we’ve seen Reeder for iPad makes reading your feeds fun! The app is available on the App Store for $4.99.

I do love Reeder, it’s the best app (WAY better than NewsRack and Pulse) for RSS.

Fast, beautiful, easy to use and all!

I just don’t like the latest… icon. I don’t mind the color change, but I hate that little page flip in the bottom right :-(

Apart from that, love Reeder :D

I blew out my reader account sometime ago
Hate to have to return to it
Don’t like being dependent on Google
Can I just have feeds added directly?

As far as we have played with Reeder seems to be mostly using RSS feeds from Google.

The only thing I hope it does is allow tagging to go back and save in google reader account.

Why can’t they add the manual feature
