Turn Your iPad into a Web Server
Japanese software development group FreeBit recently announced their app, ServersMan HD. Freebit has mentioned they have submitted the app to the iPad App Store for approval. Once it is approved, it will be available as a free download.
ServersMan HD is expected to make your iPad act like a Web server. In other words, the app allows documents and files to be uploaded, downloaded, and viewed on the device.
Currently, there are ways to get files on and off your iPad. You can do so via iTunes syncing, via e-mail, by using online services such as Dropbox and Google Docs that store your files in the cloud, or via apps like GoodReader and Air Sharing HD.
Freebit claims that once ServersMan HD is installed on your iPad, you can access text files, photos and other items stored on the device, such as PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, all via the Internet. The company also claims you can use their app to upload and download files to and from the iPad.
While we don’t expect you will be building an iPad-based data center anytime soon, this app could be useful. It could help prove the use case of cloud-based storage for mobile devices such as your iPad. GoodReader already supports many of these features. We will know more about this app once it becomes available on the App Store. Stay tuned for more details.
