Restaurant Using iPad for Menu and Ordering

email

You never know where an iPad will pop up as its popularity increases and creative individuals around the world devise new ways to incorporate its use into every day life. MUNDO Global Tapas, an Australian restaurant at the Rydges Hotel in North Sydney, is just one of the latest businesses to implement the use of iPads.

iPads have only been available for purchase outside the US for a week and this Sydney eatery had its app developed and ready to go with the Australian iPad launch on May 28th.  According to the hotel’s general manager Craig Simpson, “Everyone’s excited about the iPad and we’re jumping on the back of that.”

Patrons are able to browse through the list of menu items, view photographs and read tasting notes. Want a steak? Order one and you’ll be asked how it should be cooked.  When you’ve completed your meal selections, submit your order to the kitchen with the touch of a button.

At $500 a pop for an entry level iPad, MUNDO Global Tapas is paying a hefty price for menus, but it does make for a unique dining experience. Now I’d like to know, do they have an iPad kids menu complete with apps to entertain little ones while you dine?  That would truly be something!

Great gimmick. I expected some of the first restaurant uses would have been with the waitress using an iPad instead of giving them to the customer but if that works then so be it. Now there will be room and options on the menu to actually dig deeper into your meal if you like. Incredients, origin of the dish, about the head cook, history of the restaurant and much more. You could have quizzes every hour with a free meal as the prize. The ability to interact real time with the whole restaurant opens doors.

Wow, great trick to increase curiosity and potentially cover average. I’d love to hear the results in revenue increases (or decreases).
