Indianapolis 500 Driver uses iPad

So what does the Indianapolis 500, one of the most historic car races in the US, have to do with the iPad? Seems Brazilian Indy race car driver Tony Kanaan is a huge gadget fan and he has managed to incorporate the iPad into his racing gear.  Kanaan’s pit crew created an app for the iPad so Kanaan can read both his and his competitors position and lap times when he comes into pit lane.  In the video below, Kanaan even jokes that he is thinking about building a pocket in the car so he can stow the iPad while he is racing instead of his pit crew having to hand it to him during each pit stop.

Kanaan is the only driver to have lead the Indy 500 during each of his seven starts at the race. Unfortunately, Kanaan has not been able to convert this to a win at Indy.  Here’s hoping his iPad will help him take the checkered flag this time around.

The 94th Indianapolis 500 airs today on your local ABC channel with pre-race coverage starting at 12:00pm Eastern and the green flag start at 1:00pm.
