Volkswagen Launches iPad App

Volkswagen, the worlds largest automotive manufacturer, announced the introduction of DAS, an interactive iPad app. DAS, which stands for Digital Auto Space, is an iPad magazine app designed to introduce customers to the world of Volkswagen.  The magazine includes Volkswagen related stories, 360 degree car views, videos and a feature to test the ascent angle of the new Touareg. The magazine will be published quarterly in five languages.

“DAS. is an important building block in Volkswagen’s digital marketing strategy and gives us the opportunity for an interactive dialog with our customers. Our goal is to transmit the fascination of the brand and its products in a new digital dimension, creating a global experience,” Luca de Meo, Head of Marketing at the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said at the launch of the iPad app.

Volkswagen is not the first car company to embrace the iPad. German luxury car makers Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen subsidiary Audi both announced innovative iPad related technologies in the past two weeks. Korean car maker Hyundai plans to include an iPad with all Equus luxury sedan purchases.  Hyundai decided to ditch the paper owner’s manual and instead, replace it with an interactive version on the iPad.

Volkswagen timed the release to coincide with the iPad’s launch in Europe.  The Volkswagen DAS iPad app is now available for free in the Apple App Store.
