Steve Jobs Defends International iPad Pricing
Looks like Steve has once again been responding to customer’s e-mails. This time he’s defending Apple’s international iPad pricing. Seems that some international customers have been sending Steve e-mails complaining about the higher prices they have to pay compared to prices available here in the US. According to MacRumors, Steve had the following response:
Please educate yourself. UK prices must by law include VAT, which is around 18%. US prices do not include tax.
We took a closer look at pricing for the iPad and compared US pricing to pricing in four European countries once VAT was removed from the sales price. After we normalized pricing, the difference was much smaller than we expected. The lowest premium was only $15 for the 16GB model in Spain and the most expensive was the 64GB WiFi model in Germany with a $75 premium.
