iPad Users Watching Lots of Video
Long before the iPad was launched, many experts were touting how the iPad would change the way people consumed video. Well, based on some data from MeFeedia, the iPad is already considered an ideal device for watching online video. Just within a week after the iPad was released, MeFeedia was reporting that iPad users watched two and a half times as many videos as typical web users. In addition, MeFeedia reported that iPad users were watching video three times longer than web users.
The iPad has been in the market for three weeks, and it seems that as early adopters get used to the device and more mainstream users begin buying it, they’re using it for video even more than many thought. MeFeedia has released some new data. According to MeFeedia, the iPad seems to be the fifth most popular mobile device for viewing video. Chitika Labs estimates iPad sales are approaching a million units, and according to these estimates the iPad trails only the iPhone, iPod Touch, SymbianOS and Android devices in terms of videos viewed.
I want to be very careful with these estimates. It is worth noting that MeFeedia’s data comes from a small sample of iPad owners that use MeFeedia and its video search engine. However, I would like to see more data from some of the very popular iPad apps such as ABC Player and Netflix.
I have many friends that own an iPad already. All of them are streaming videos constantly with their new toy. Even, the few ones that don’t are already catching up with daily news by watching short video clips. More data will become available in the coming weeks as many buyers will be picking up their 3G iPads. Based on what I’ve observed over the last three weeks, I must say the iPad will change the way users consume video.
What do you think? Are you consuming lots of video? Would like to hear your opinion.
