iPads at Work

email

Looks like even meteorologists are jumping on the iPad bandwagon!  As I was watching the Today Show this morning, I noticed Al Roker using his iPad while reporting live from Iceland on the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.  It was then that I started to wonder, how many of you out there are using iPads for reasons other than gaming, video watching and reading?  If you’re using your iPad for business purposes, leave us a comment and tell us your story.  We might even feature you and your iPad in an upcoming post.

I work In radiology. I am an MRI tech I had a difficult study that needs to asses the arteries in my patients small intestines. I needed to look up some anatomy and see some other examples of images of the location of these arteries so I was able to google the images the day before pull them up and pinch and zoom the images on the iPad plus share them with another technologist all in our hands. So the iPad def made my job easier that day

Hi Danny. Have you used any medical apps on your iPad?

As a teacher, I use my iPad instead of the school computer when possible for attendance and grading as I wander the room and check/ assess students on their work.

As a public relations Grad Student, school is my full time job right now, and the iPad, along with already saving me close to $200 on textbooks, has also replaced my Macbook for going back and forth to school. I take notes, edit documents, write press releases, and share research all from my iPad.

Right now I’m using Pages, it works really well, but I just got Evernote and that is also showing a lot of promise

I am an IT Manager at 120 person company, who is called upon at all hours, 7 days a week for help with people’s systems.

I used to have to lug around my laptop everywhere, just in the event that I needed to remote control someone’s computer or one of the company’s and fix things. Now I just carry around an iPad, and use the VPN and some VNC software to remotely access a system in the office with ARD loaded on it. From that platform, I have helped people in offices in New York, Beverly Hills and San Francisco. I would dearly love it if Apple released a version of ARD for the iPad, so I didn’t have to add an extra step between me and the client.

I’ve been using my iPad for the past week or so as my primary work mobile device (laptop replacement). I travel with it, take it to meeting and such. I’m a VP of IT and depend heavily on it. It’s done a good job when I’m doing mostly consumption, i.e., emails, reading docs or viewing spreadsheet. However, it’s not great for creating or manipulating large or complicated spreadsheet (using Numbers). I also have to remote to my Windows desktop to run several needed applications. I’ll continue to use over the next few weeks. It’s a good start, but I’m not ready to pitch the laptop just yet.

Use it for business?? let’s start with the fact that I can’t even accept a meeting invite on my iPad or iPhone. And that goes for meeting invitations originating from an exchange server or from Apples iCal. It’s a joke that hasn’t been solved yet.

    • Bill

@JannyMac – I’ve had an iPhone for two years and have been able to sync calendars and accept invites with our Exchange server.

Sounds like you either have an older Exchange server, corrupted Exchange account or possible the iPhone settings are incorrect.

Hope you can get things resolved with IT. Good luck!

I work for a real estate developer in Belize. When I meet with clients it is berry easy to use the GoodReader App to display land maps, lot maps and updated pricing and availability. Many clients enjoy the interaction while viewing their future purchase.

I also am the Marketing Director for a very well known Southern California Insurance Broker. After creating my print ads, and marketing brochures, it is easy once again to view the final layouts.

I am a very happy Apple iPad owner and it fits my lifestyle perfectly.

I am the CEO of non profit organization with 250 employees. Recently, we held an overnight board retreat and I was asked to prepare a PowerPoint (Keynote) presentation for the second day of the retreat. With some trepidation, I decided to use Keynote on my new iPad to make the presentation. I used a MacBook for the bulk of the development work, transferred the file over to the iPad, fine tuned my work, and used the iPad to drive a projector for the presentation. I needed to update a few slides just prior to the presentation and actually pirated a slide from another Keynote file at the very last minute. Everything worked flawlessly. For first generation hardware, this iPad gizmo is something special.
