iPad Gaining Browser Share

The New York Times has reported the iPad online usage may be approaching Android and BlackBerry numbers. Since the iPad release, the presence on the Web seems to be rivaling other established devices. The initial data we’ve seen from NetApplications (via IDG) shows the iPad has averaged 0.03% of all Web traffic per day.

Although the number is small compared to Windows XP (64.5% of total market), it’s within the reach of other rivals. The reports show the BlackBerry had a usage share of 0.04% during March. Meanwhile, Android, apparently accounted for the same figure. Other Windows OS systems, such as Windows Millennium and Windows ME, drove about 0.04% Web traffic last month. In addition, Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch devices have a combined share of 0.6%, much higher than the iPad’s.

Perhaps, the iPad’s initial numbers could be credited to the product excitement. But, some things are certain. The iPad without a doubt will drive high Web traffic, the 3G version will launch in late April, and finally it will launch internationally in May. I think we can expect Web traffic numbers to grow very soon.  What do you think?

This number will continue to grow as more and more devices are released into the wild. I know for me, it’s hard to go back to my iPhone (tiny screen) with the iPad browsing experience far more superior with the larger screen and battery life.

I’m very happy so far with the iPad, and can’t wait to see this device grow like wild fire!
