Netflix Is Coming To iPad

As reported by App Advice, Netflix seems to have announced their iPad app availability for April 3rd. To me this is great news, especially for all of us media-intensive people. And if it wasn’t enough, the app will be available for FREE, and you’ll be able to watch TV shows and movie streams from Netflix as part of your unlimited Netflix membership. You’re also given the ability to resume watching  your shows or movies where you left off on your TV or computer.

I’ve been a Netflix subscriber since they came out with their service. Their service has continuously improve every year and their catalog keeps getting bigger. What we’ve heard is that if you aren’t already a Netflix member, you can sign up as one and get a 2-week free trial.

You may be asking yourself, how will this compare to an eventual Hulu app? Well, let’s put it this way. Netflix doesn’t have the selection of new television shows Hulu has, but it has a better library of movies. And actually, it also has a solid archive of older shows. Plus the catalog should continue to grow.

Folks, it’s simple. Netflix continues to push the envelope and preparing all of you for a future when you don’t need to use DVDs. If you were still thinking about getting the iPad, perhaps this may help you seal the deal!

So, will this only be for Wi-Fi streaming or will we be able to use 3G for Netflix?

Not enough data available yet for all the plans it will support. For now, count on the WiFi only support. Still not known yet whether the app will work on the 3G iPad. I would assume that will be the case. Not sure if later on iPad users would need to upgrade their wireless service to an unlimited plan given the amount of streaming people would do. But, I have to assume the 3G iPad will support it eventually.

Why would Apple allow Netflix to have an App and therefore steal business from their own iTunes movies?

Netflix mentions streaming to a few devices on their website, but the ipad is not on the list. Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO is already on record as saying the ipad is not a high priority for them.

I smell an April Fool’s joke. It’s kind of a cruel joke to, because so many people want it to be true.

The Ipad section of the Itunes store is up and running with all the new apps. Big surprise, No Netflix. You all been fooled.
